Why the name "Borrego Publishing?"
For my love of the desert in Borrego Springs, CA. I'm also an avid roadrunner collector. Beep-beep!
Borrego Springs is located 85 miles northeast of San Diego, where San Diego County Highways S-3 and S-22 meet in Borrego Valley in southeastern California. Borrego Springs has a local population of about 3,000. Many have said that Borrego Springs is what Palm Springs was 50 years ago—peaceful, quiet, relaxing. There are no stoplights in Borrego. There is an excellent airport in Borrego making it easily accessible to those far and near.
Borrego Springs holds festivals annually to celebrate the rich heritage and the natural beauty that surrounds it. The Grapefruit Festival is held in February. The weekend festivities include live music, dances, a tennis tournament, picnics, a classic car show, and games for children. Circle of Art takes place in March. Peg Leg Liar's Contest at Peg Leg Smith Monument is in April. Cinco de Mayo in May. The Borrego Days Desert Festival, held the last week of October, is a celebration that marks the official kickoff of the tourism season. The festival’s events include a parade, the Miss Borrego Pageant, dances, carnivals, live music, and arts and crafts.
Borrego Springs has the unique distinction of being surrounded by the largest state park in the contiguous United States, the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, part of the Colorado Desert. About 900 square miles in size (over 650,000 acres), the park is home to hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails, 12 wilderness areas and many species of wildlife such as golden eagles, mule deer and big horn sheep. One hiking trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, passes in and out of the park several times, providing 50 miles of adventuresome hiking and sightseeing. This desert park features washes, wildflowers, palms groves, cacti and sweeping vistas. In late winter and early spring, the floor of the desert, covered with sage, cacti and thorny mesquite, becomes a blaze of color with its variety of wildflowers in bloom. The park offers many free interpretive programs to the public including Naturalist’s Talks, Fossil Programs, Garden and Nature Walks, Guided Hikes and Campfire Programs.
The Desert! Either you will love it or you will hate it. If you hate it, you will fly from it and wish to never see it's face again. If you love it, it will hold you and draw you as will no other land on earth. —Marshal South
