What is Proofreading?
It is reading a proof copy of text for the purpose of detecting errors. A proof copy is traditionally a version of a manuscript that has been typeset after copy editing has been performed. Proofreading is the final stage of the editing process, focusing on surface errors such as misspellings and mistakes in grammar and punctuation. You should proofread only after you have finished all of your other editing revisions.
The line between copy editing and proofreading is narrow. Proofreading usually refers to reviewing any text, hardcopy or electronic copy (on a computer), and checking for any kind of errors. We generally charge between $1.50–$2.00 per page, depending on density. It's hard to edit or proofread a paper or book that you've just finished writing—it's still too familiar, and you may skip over a lot of errors.
